PARTHASARATHI, a Bengali periodical, devoted to Religion and Nationalism
Activities of Sri Priti Kumar Ghosh has been spread much beyond his physical existence from 10th March, 1926 to 24th November, 1986. Even after 31 years of his passing away, a large number of people bow their heads to his immortal soul not because he attained profuse supernatural power, but because he led a life of true Yogi, a real spiritual guide in the turmoil of daily social life.
Sri Priti Kumar was born in a remote village named Alka-Phultala under Khulna Division of the-then East Bengal. He lost his father Prodyot Kumar Ghosh at the age of 10 years. The bereaved family was suddenly plunged into distressed condition. In 1936, earning was not simple for a tender aged boy with 2 younger brothers and 3 sisters as well as their mother Smt. Abala Bala Ghosh, He had to sacrifice his childhood to come to Calcutta in search of regular income. Sri Priti Kumar, a man of gigantic personality, used to be refrained from any kind of applause that could be drawn by narrating the details of his physical struggle for materialistic earning and also his silent achievements in the spiritual sphere.
Withstanding tremendous pecuniary difficulties, Sri Priti Kumar was governed by his inner mind to introduce a Bengali Monthly journal named “Parthasarathi” in 1960 to spread moral values in a decaying society corrupted by politics, money and muscle power in a divided country suffering from religious feud. Sri Anil Baran Roy, Acharya Dilip Kumar Roy, Swami Vijnanananda and many other eminent writers of the era extended their hands for development and establishment of the little magazine. Sri Priti Kumar in spite of his bad health continued to take active part in publication of Parthasarathi till the last day of his life.Sri Priti Kumar entered into married life in 1956. His wife Mrs. Shukla Ghosh was Physical Instructress of Brahmananda Keshab Chandra College. She got inspiration from Sri Priti Kumar to continue her graduation and Post-graduation studies from Calcutta University. Her longing for adventure and sports was also admired by Sri Priti Kumar. She completed her basic and Advance Mountaineering Courses from former Western Himalayan Mountaineering Institute, Manali (presently named as Atal Bihari Vajpayee Institute of Mountaineering). Their only son Sunandan, born in 1957, completed the study of Bachelor of Civil Engineering from Jadavpur University. He served WBSEB (now WBSEDCL) as Civil Engineer and developed his passion for Mountaineering and Photography under continuous support of Sri Priti Kumar. “Parbatprana,” a mountaineering club was also formed in 1985.
Attachment of his family with Parthasarathi is so deeply rooted that on 25th November, 1986 his wife, after returning from Cossipore Burning Ghat, suppressed her personal shock and went to Shyambazar Post office to post Parthasarathi, Agrahayan, 1393 (November, 1986) issue.
Publication of Parthasarathi remains uninterrupted till date with continuous blessing and spiritual guidance of its Founder.
Sri Priti Kumar never posed to be a Guru and never tried to force anything on any person. Yet people came from far and near seeking his blessings, and they must have got something to quench their thirst and to soothe their hearts. To his countless admirers and devotees he became their “Friend, Philosopher and Guide.”
Consequently “Parthasarathi Chakra,” a socio-religious-cultural organization was formed on the 16th September, 1974 with continuous advice and active participation of Sri Priti Kumar.
Apart from publication of Parthasarathi, Sri Priti Kumar wrote books on “Sri Aurobindo” , “Gitaye Sadhana,” “ Saral Chandi” and “Saral Gita.”
All the books were highly appreciated by the media and the scholars.
Sudden demise of Sri Priti Kumar was such a jerk on the mind of his followers that some schemes and projects initiated by him are yet to be unrolled.
With the blessings of Sri Priti Kumar and Lord Parthasarathi we shall follow his mission of spreading “Manual of Human life” in all possible ways.
PARTHASARATHI came into being in July, 1960. Sri Priti Kumar spent many days in the Pondicherry Ashram when Sri Aurobindo, the Great Guru, was there in his mortal body. India won freedom on 15th August,1947. After a tyranny of 190 years British empire left behind our country at cross roads. Loyalty to caste and community was given priority over devotion to the motherland. Linguistic fanaticism and chauvinism, Communalism and parochialism took precedence over National considerations. Economic disparity gave birth to racism and mistrust. The disintegrated nation was regularly experiencing shock due to infiltration of Refugees, instigation of separatists and invasion of neighboring army. The values we cherished for centuries, the beliefs and the ideals we were dedicated to, were crumbling fast. But nothing – no new edifice – seemed to come up in their places.
Sri Priti Kumar felt that unless there is a cohesion in cultural diversities, unless there is a harmony in Religious dis-integrity, the wound of Political division will not be healed. Inspired by the Religious heritage of Hinduism from the childhood and cultural teachings of Sri Aurobindo in his youth, Sri Priti Kumar came across all financial and socio-political hindrances to introduce Parthasarathi, a new Bengali monthly magazine based on Religion and Nationalism.
